Deskrawl Beginner Guide: A Clean First Hour
Start Deskrawl: Idle ARPG without wasting early gold or confusing online and singleplayer characters. This first-hour route covers class choice, the loot loop, minions, town priorities, and safe progression checks.
Choose the right Deskrawl character mode first
Deskrawl offers Singleplayer and Online Mode, and that choice matters before the first serious grind. Online Mode is the route for Steam Market trading. As of patch 1.0.0h, it requires the account to own Deskrawl; Family Sharing, Free Weekend, and PC café licenses can still create Singleplayer characters.
Do not assume the modes merge later.
Players are actively asking for offline-to-online syncing. No official source reviewed for this Deskrawl beginner guide promises a conversion path, so pick the mode that matches how you expect to play.
Pick your first Deskrawl class
The Deskrawl launch roster is Warrior, Sorcerer, Monk, and Hunter. Warrior is the most forgiving recommendation for a first unattended run because current guides consistently describe strong direct damage and defensive options. Sorcerer is the clearer ranged alternative, using elemental damage and crowd control to keep enemies away.
Monk rewards dodge, attack speed, and tightly planned talent synergies. Hunter was considered a slower launch-day choice, but patch 1.0.0h increased Steady Shot, Multishot, Rapid Fire, Arcane Arrowstorm, and several talents. A Deskrawl class list published before 1 October is already stale.
Run the Deskrawl first-hour loop
- Let a new zone prove itself. Watch several waves before increasing difficulty. A build that wins once but regularly dies is poor idle progress.
- Change active abilities before talents. A current community leveling guide reports that action-bar abilities can be swapped free, while talent resets consume increasing amounts of gold.
- Equip for the next bottleneck. If survival fails, value mitigation, recovery, control, or range. If waves time out, move toward damage and attack cadence.
- Return to town with a purpose. Store useful alternates, clear low-value loot, check newly unlocked services, then go back to the strongest stable node.
Judge Deskrawl gear without stopping the grind
Read Deskrawl equipment as part of a complete build, not as a single green number. Compare the affix to the attacks currently on the bar, keep an eye on class damage type, and remember that legendary effects or rune-set bonuses can outweigh a modest raw-stat upgrade.
Patch 1.0.0g changed equipment-slot drop odds to be even across slots after Hunter received fewer weapons. That is another reason not to treat demo-era farming advice as current.
Use Deskrawl minions and town as multipliers
Deskrawl lets captured enemies—including bosses—serve as minions. A minion can pull the loot carriage, provide passive bonuses, or use a combat ability. Choose one that fixes the run you are actually doing; a larger carriage is valuable only if it reduces interruptions, while a combat passive matters when a zone is barely stable.
Deskrawl town progression unlocks NPCs and services as resources accumulate. The official launch post describes three main towns across ten regions and eighty map nodes. Spend into convenience when it increases uninterrupted farming time, and into power when the next node is genuinely blocked.
Avoid expensive Deskrawl early mistakes
- Do not copy a level-60 talent tree into a level-15 character without its required capstone path.
- Do not spend gold on repeated talent resets just to test skills that can be changed freely.
- Do not push a higher node if deaths reduce loot and experience per hour.
- Do not list an important item or minion until you understand the current market flow and character mode.
- Do not use a launch-day Deskrawl tier list without checking whether it predates patch 1.0.0h.
Official game features, launch scale, and online eligibility come from the Steam store and patch 1.0.0h. Talent-reset cost and free active-skill swaps are community-tested in the current Steam Monk leveling guide; treat their exact values as patch-sensitive.
